Tuloso-Midway ISD Board of Trustees Call for May 2026 Bond

The Tuloso-Midway Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved calling a School Bond Election for May 2, 2026.

"I’d like to thank our Board of Trustees for their continued dedication and commitment to the students and future of Tuloso-Midway ISD,” Superintendent Steve VanMatre said. “This bond proposal aligns with our strategic plan and will continue our steps forward to address the priorities stated in that plan.”

Texas school districts do not receive state funding for school renovations or new construction. Instead, they must receive funds through school bond elections. The 2026 Bond will ask voters to consider a $140 million package in two propositions.

Proposition A would address aging facilities, equipment and new learning spaces for $136 million and includes the following:

  • District-wide Facility Updates
  • New High School Band Hall
  • High School Building Modernization
  • District-wide Furniture Updates
  • High School Ag Facility Updates
  • SPED Sensory Rooms
  • New High School Fieldhouse
  • Technology Updates
  • New High School Multipurpose Pavilion
  • Middle School Outdoor Extended Learning Playscape
  • New Buses

Proposition B is for $4 million and includes the following:

  • Student and Teacher Devices

If voters approve $136 million for Proposition A in May, the estimated impact would be $10.60 per month for a home valued at $256,756 - the average value in Tuloso-Midway ISD. If voters approve $4 million for Proposition B in May, the estimated impact would be $0.30 per month on the same home.

If voters approve both propositions, the estimated impact would be $10.90 per month for a home valued at $256,756.

The estimated financial impact of Bond 2026 includes the $140,000 homestead exemption approved by state voters in November. Homeowners age 65 and older will now receive a $200,000 homestead exemption if they have filed for and received the Over-65 Exemption through their local tax assessor’s office.

Since 2019, state law requires all bond propositions for any school district to have the phrase “THIS IS A PROPERTY TAX INCREASE” on all ballot language for bond propositions. Homeowners aged 65 and older who have filed for and received the Over 65 exemption will not see an increase in their frozen dollar amount unless they renovate or improve their residence. Check your most recent Notice of Assessed Value Change to see if you will be impacted.

The district will begin providing the community with comprehensive voter education on all aspects of the 2026 bond package.

“We want to make sure that our community is well-informed with the facts surrounding this bond proposal,” VanMatre said. “We will be sending out voter education information by mail, digitally, and on social media. Our primary responsibility is to communicate only the facts about the bond, so that our constituents can make an informed decision in May.”

Bond project information and voting locations will be available on the district website at Tuloso-Midway ISD Bond 2026 website.
