In math, so far, your child has been introduced to graphing, addition up to ten, and subtraction up to ten. As we end the first six weeks, children are being introduced to telling time to the hour. As we near our first intercession, it will be helpful to review these skills with your child so that they keep their knowledge fresh. Use dot flash cards to help students recognize groups as numbers. Practice reading digital and analog clocks to the hour, and use small objects such as pennies or dried beans to add and subtract.
In reading, your child has been practicing rhyming skills, breaking words into sounds and isolating beginning, middle, and final sounds in words. Too, we've been practicing word families. When reviewing spelling words, each week, have students identify the word families within the words. Practice flashing sight word cards and reading decodable books, nightly. This will help build your student's fluency. When reading, have students retell the story and ask questions so that your child may go back to the text and find answers. This will help build comprehension in reading.
