The start of Deaf Awareness Week is upon us and we are SO excited! After weeks and weeks of hard work, we have planned an awesome schedule of events for our Corpus Christi Deaf Community. I have attached our scheduled events and the interpreted church services this Sunday (if you attend Church Unlimited, I will be interpreting this weekend!).
Our program’s goal this year is to spread awareness whether it be about American Sign Language, hearing loss, to Deaf Culture. We have had students begin advocating and many have decided to make ASL a career path. Even if they don’t, we know they’ll take the knowledge wherever they go in life after high school.
Here at the high school, having a new Deaf teacher on campus has been a new experience and challenge to be able to communicate for many who have never met a deaf person before. Many teachers have taken to learning a few phrases in ASL to bridge the communication gap. That makes me hopeful and very proud of my
T-M family. With that being said, we hope that we can see you all come out to a few events to show support of our Deaf Community and our students.
Thank you so much!
