Tuloso Midway Middle School Art Department/Roberta Mengers
Art Course Overview
Students in art will be exploring, demonstrating and making judgments about their own art work and art work of others. Our main focus in art will be to explore and demonstrate different styles of artwork using the Elements and Principles of Art (line, space, color value, form, texture, shape, space, balance, contrast, emphasis, movement, pattern, unity and rhythm). Art I students will be expected to incorporate, produce, analyze, create and illustrate those elements and principles of art while challenging their imagination while fostering reflective thinking and developing problem-solving skills. All major grades are given a weight of 65% and minor grades are given a weight of 35% for the six weeks. An example, of a major grade in art is a project that takes longer than 5 days to complete and encompasses more than 3 elements or principles of art. A minor grade example is visual journal entries and notes taken in the journal over the assignments. Students will also be given the opportunity to evaluate their own work throughout the year and the teacher will also assess the work using the same grading rubric to determine a final grade.
Supplies that you will need this year on a daily basis are:
a mechanical pencil (.07 lead is preferred), #2 pencils, erasers, a (set of 50) colored pencils, set of fine tip and broad tip markers, inexpensive baby wipes, Uniball brand Univision Permanent Pens and facial tissues.
